Archive for the ‘ Prayers for the Church ’ Category

Added during the Sede Vacante period after the abdication of Pope Benedict XVI in 2013, this prayer is drawn from the Mass for Election of the Roman Pontiff. Please add it to your daily Rosary or prayers before and throughout the Conclave, that the Holy Ghost may have freedom of inspiration amongst the Cardinal Electors in their choice for a successor to Peter.

Prayer For The Election of The Sovereign Pontiff

V. I will raise me up a faithful priest,
who shall do according to My Heart, and My Soul:
R. And I will build him a faithful house,
and he shall walk all days before My Anointed.

Let us pray: We most humbly entreat Thee, O Lord, that Thy boundless goodness may grant as bishop to the Most Holy Roman Church one who shall ever be both pleasing to Thee, by his loving zeal in our regard, and, by his beneficent rule, deeply revered by Thy people to the glory of Thy Name. Through our Lord. R. Amen.

R. Amen.

O My Redeemer, will that terrible moment ever come when but few shall be left who are inspired by the Spirit of Faith, that moment when Thine indignation shall be provoked and Thy protection shall be taken from us? Have our vices and our evil lives irrevocably moved Thy justice to take vengeance, perhaps this very day, upon Thy children? We beg Thee, the Beginning and the End of faith, with contrite hearts, not to let the light of faith be extinguished in souls. Remember Thy mercies of old, turn Thine eyes in compassion upon the vineyard planted by Thine own right hand, and watered by the tears of the Apostles, by the precious blood of countless martyrs, and made fruitful by the prayers of so many Confessors and innocent Virgins. O Divine Mediator, look upon those zealous souls who raise their hearts to Thee and pray without ceasing for the maintenance of that most precious gift of Thee, the True Faith. Keep us safe in the True Catholic and Roman Faith. Preserve us in Thy Holy Faith, for if we are rich with this precious gift, we shall gladly endure every sorrow and nothing shall ever be able to change our happiness. Without this great treasure of faith, our unhappiness would be unspeakable and without limit. O Good Jesus, Author of our faith, preserve it pure within us; keep us safe in the barque of Peter, faithful and obedient to his successor, and Thy Vicar here on earth, so that the unity of the Holy Church may be maintained, holiness fostered, the Holy See protected in freedom, and the Church universal extended to the benefit of souls. O Jesus, Author of our faith, humble and convert the enemies of Thy Church; grant true peace and concord to all believers; strengthen and preserve us in Thy holy service to the end, that we may live with Thee and die in Thee. O Jesus, Author of our faith, let me live for Thee and die for Thee. Amen.

Let us pray:

God the Father of Mercies, from Whom all good comes, pour fourth Thy blessing upon Thy bishops, Whom Thou hast anointed by the Holy Ghost to be successors of the Apostles, that they may lead all souls in the way of Redemption with charity, fidelity and courage. May they always put the care of their flock before their own needs, without human respect or mundane fear, in order that we may follow them in the Truth that leads to eternal life, for we are a weak and sinful flock.

God the Father of Truth, we pray for our own shepherd, _________, that he may find in Thee all that he is lacking, growing each day in sanctity and fortitude, fortifying all of the souls within his flock by Sacrament, word, and deed.

God the Father Almighty, we beseech singular graces for Thy Sovereign Pontiff, ______________, the shepherd of shepherds, so that he may fulfill Thy Holy Will in grace and truth. Receive these, our humble petitions, through Christ the Good Shepherd, Thy Son, Who lives and reigns with Thee in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, for ever and ever. Amen.
